Hello, I'm Geoff Riding, an urban planner, graphic designer and part-time Auslan teacher living and working on Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung lands in Naarm Melbourne, Australia.
Critically, I am interested in how social concepts and practices materialise in cities and how urban planning and design can mediate contested relations between different social actors towards socio-spatial justice and ecological sustainability. Pragmatically, my interests and capabilities lie in the intersectionalities of sociology, governance, environmental philosophy and urban design, GIS, integrated transport and land-use planning.
I am currently engaged in Masters of Urban Planning at the University of Melbourne. Alongside my studies, I have been a partner of graphic design studio Copy Boy since 2012. I'm proudly Deaf and teach Auslan (Australian sign language) courses, Magic Hands Auslan, one night a week.
